Abstract:
The reaction of CO with chemisorbed O on the Ir(111) (110) faces was studied. The rate of the initial reaction on Ir(111) is proportional to the disorder degree of the (2 × 1)O layer. At 330 K, the rate on (110), microfaceted with (111) faces, is >1 order faster than on Ir(111)-(2 × 1)O. The latter is explained by a higher degree of disorder due to surface defects.
