Abstract:
A study has been made of the timewise change in activity of vanadium catalysts in relation to the test conditions and to the nature and quantity of the alkaline promoter. It has been established that the greatest drops in activity during extended tests take place at low temperatures and low SO2 conversions. The drop in activity is explained by slow processes of segregation of crystalline or aggregated compounds of quadrivalent vanadium. The processes may be avoided or strongly retarded by reducing the concentration of vanadium in the melt of the active component, which is characteristic for samples with a high Me/v ratio and for complex-promoted catalysts.
