Abstract:
The formation and thermal quenching of radical forms of adsorbed oxygen arising in adsorption of O2 and N2O on a reduced vanadium catalyst were investigated. It was shown that N2O only oxidizes its ''own'' electron centers, which do not react with O2 adsorption centers at temperatures under 673 K. It was found that paired formation of O- and O2- radical anions is observed for molecules of O2. An increase in the temperature is accompanied by reversible decomposition of the O2- complex with preservation of its stabilization center. A further increase in the temperature is associated with quenching of O- radical anions and electron centers and regeneration of the oxidized state of the catalyst. A mechanism of formation of oxygen radical anions was proposed.
