Abstract:
γ-Al2O3 supported sulfided (Ni-Mo) and (Co-Mo) catalysts were prepared by two methods: (1) by successive anchoring first molybdenum complexes and then nickel or cobalt complexes and (2) by conventional incipient wetness impregnation with aqueous solutions of molybdenum and nickel (cobalt) salts. The catalysts of the metal-complex origin are more active in thiophene hydrogenolysis than the impregnated catalysts, although the kinetics of this reaction is very similar for both types of catalysts. It is suggested that the difference in activity stems from the nonuniform composition of surface compounds in the impregnated catalysts.
