Abstract:
Various structural models for a MoS2 single packet of a size up to 25 angstrom are considered. The models are based on the electroneutrality principle for a (MoS2)x macromolecule of any size and shape. The principle suggests saturation of all valence bonds on the periphery of a single packet on retention of the MoS2 stoichiometry. The dependences of molybdenum coordination numbers relative to molybdenum on the size and shape of a single MoS2 packet and on its orientation with respect to the alumina surface are analyzed. The low coordination numbers found experimentally by EXAFS are explained assuming that the peripheral Mo atoms are nondetectable by this technique due to rather high values of the Debye-Waller factor.
