Abstract:
The semiempirical quantum-chemical MIMDO/3 method is used for the description of highly dispersed magnesium chloride containing various coordinatively unsaturated (three-, four-, and five-coordinate) magnesium ions. Various adsorption complexes of carbon monoxide at the MgCl2 surface are considered. The frequencies of the CO stretching vibration in various adsorption complexes and the frequencies of the stretching vibration of surface hydroxyl groups calculated within the harmonic-oscillator approximation agree well with the experimental and theoretical data.
