Abstract:
The effect of the nature of the precipitating agent of TiO2 xerogel (NH4OH and NaOH at pH 2-9.5) was studied on the formation of a porous structure. A limited particle size of ∼5 nm forms on precipitation with NH4OH, independent of pH. Xerogels precipitated at pH near isoelectric point exhibit highest porosity of a wide pore size. A deviation from this pH leads to the formation of a homogeneous fine-porosity xerogel. The precipitation by NaOH solutions results in higher porosity but smaller specific surface area material.
