Abstract:
A study has been made of the effect of the grain size distribution of palladium on the activity of Pd/C catalysts in the vapor phase hydrogeneration of 2,6-dimethylphenol. It has been shown that distribution of Pd in an external layer of the catalyst granule approx.150 μm thick ensures almost complete utilization of the active component. Kinetic mechanisms of interconversion reactions of 2,6-dimethylphenol, 2,6-dimethylcyclohexanone, and 2,6-dimethylcyclohexanol in an atmosphere of H2 on Pd/C have been studied. A mathematical treatment of the kinetic mechanisms in terms of a linear mechanism has been put forward.
