Abstract:
To study the separate steps of the conversion of 2,6-dimethylcyclohexanone to 2,6-dimethylaniline NMR and IR spectroscopy was used. The kinetics of this reaction was studied in a flow system in the vapor phase on a 0.5% Pd/C catalyst. A mechanism was proposed for the formation of 2,6-dimethylaniline, in which palladium catalyzes the hydrogenation-dehydrogenation step, while surface hydride forms catalyze the addition of ammonia at the carbonyl group of 2,6-dimethylcyclohexanone.
