Abstract:
It is shown that substitution solid solutions of Co ions form in MgO and ZnO. In the case of bulk Co ions in MgO an octahedral coordination is realized by the oxygen, while in ZnO the coordination is tetrahedral. The distribution of Co ions in MgO obeys a statistical law. In the case of ZnO the distribution differs significantly from a statistical one, owing to the formation of Co2+ ion clusters. On an MgO surface Co ions are stabilized in two states differing with respect to their coordination milieu and their redox ability.
