Abstract:
The x-ray diffraction study of the changes of dispersion of Ir in Ir/Al2O3 catalyst, pretreated at 500-1100° in H or in oxidizing medium (Ar containing 0.003% O), revealed that the stability of dispersed compounds depends on the composition of gaseous phase and on reaction of the active component with the support (here reaction of H2IrCl6 with γ-, η, or δ- Al2O3). The polymorphic transition of alumina enhances reduction of the ionic part of Ir-support complex. A decomposition of this complex leads to the formation of very fine metal particles.
