Abstract:
The temperature dependence of the electrical conductivity and the field dependence of the magnetoresistivity of samples of multiwall catalytic carbon nanotubes containing a small amount of amorphous carbon impurity. Below a temperature of 20 K the observed temperature dependence of the conductivity of the nanotubes shows a contribution from two-dimensional quantum corrections to the conductivity. At a temperature of 4.2 K one observes negative magnetoresistance on the B curves in the field interval 0–10 kG, due to the dominance of the contribution to the magnetoresistance from the quantum corrections for interacting electrons. A special synthesis technique is used to obtain multiwall catalytic carbon nanotubes that are practically free of amorphous carbon impurities, making it possible to observe electron–electron interaction effects unnoticeable in previously synthesized nanotubes of this kind. ©
