Abstract:
The behavior of Cu and Co in different matrices as catalysts for H oxidn. and CO conversion with H2O vapor was studied. The results obtained confirm that the coordination and the surrounding inert matrices have a significant influence on the at. catalytic activity(ACA) of Cu and Co ions. Cobalt ions in tetrahedral coordination are stabilized in a doubly-charged state and do not participate in the catalytic oxidn. of H proceeding via a redox mechanism. In contrast, Co ions with octahedral coordination are readily oxidized and reduced, and have high ACA for H oxidn. For Cu ions, the effect of interaction is manifested in a considerable increase in ACA with Cu concn. in a solid-state soln. Isolated Cu ions have low activity for H oxidn. and CO conversion. For Co ions in MgO the activity is detd. by the portion of ions in various coordinations. For ions of a certain coordination ACA remains const. at all Co concns.
