Abstract:
The adsorption of DMS and DMSO on V2O5 has been studied chromatographically. The maximum amount of chemisorbed substance on oxidized and reduced surfaces is approximately the same. The rate of adsorption of DMS is two orders of magnitude higher than the rate of its catalytic oxidation. Some of the DMSO adsorbed on V2O5 is desorbed without change; when DMS is desorbed, DMSO is formed together with other products, Under certain conditions DMSO is formed as the principal product when DMS is oxidized by oxygen in the gase phase in the presence of V2O5.
