Abstract:
Detailed modeling of the CH4 [74-82-8] reforming-methanation cycle in a closed-loop thermochem. power cycle indicated that the efficiency passes through a max. for conversion of the concd. solar energy into heat with temp. ∼900 K, and an exptl. power plant confirmed the possibility of practical systems which would give sufficiently high efficiency both in primary conversion of the concd. solar light into chem. stored energy and the conversion of the stored energy into high-quality heat. The exptl. obtained values for efficiency were >40% for the 1st process and 10% for a closed-loop system which allowed the prodn. of heat at >500°.
