Abstract:
The IR spectra reveal that O adsorbs on reduced surface of TiO2 in 3 forms: (1) mol O2; (2) ion-radical, O2-; and at. O. The O2- form can be observed also by EPR. The variety in the bond strength of the absorbed O2- increased, the concentration of the adsorbed mol. O2 decreased and the concentration of the adsorbed at. O increased with the increasing degree of TiO2 surface reduction. The samples of low degree of surface reduction exhibit 1 EPR signal with gz = 2.0225. The highly reduced TiO2 surface exhibits up to 5 types of adsorbed O2- with gz values 2.0213, 2.0233, 2.0254, 2.0278, and 2.0330. It is assumed that with changing degree of surface reduction the coordination no. of Ti ions changes also.
