Abstract:
Chelate complexes and complexes with unidentate ligand coordination have been synthsized from 1-alkyl-2-(2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)benzimidazoles and 2-(2-hydroxyphenyliminomethyl)-1-methylbenzimidazole with Cu(II), Zn(II), and Pd(II) acetates and Cu(II), Zn(II), Pd(II), Sn(IV), and Ti(IV) chlorides. Their structure and physicochemical properties have been examined by IR, ESR, electronic, and luminescence spectroscopy and magnetochemistry. Complex formation shifts the benzoid-quinoid equilibrium of the ligands toward the quinoid form. Complexes with unidentate ligand coordination are presumed to involve binding of the metal to the pyridine nitrogen atom of the heterocyclic fragment.
