Abstract:
Nonporous fiberglass (FG) textile materials of silicate origin are used as a support for preparation of novel catalysts for incineration of toxic emissions. Their high efficiency is related to capability of glass to confine in the subsurface layers (10-20 nm in depth) the highly dispersed metal clusters of ca.1 nm. In spite of extremely low Pt content (0.01-0.02% wt.) the FG catalysts showed very high performance in VOC and CVOC removal. Here, we present the data on molecular structure of the Zr-silicate glass obtained by means of NMR, FTIR, features of the Pt/FG catalysts preparation and characterization with STEM-HAADF, XPS, etc, as well as results of their commercialization in incineration of volatile organic compounds.
Pt(II) tetraamine cations were introduced into the bulk of fiber via ion exchange with protons of the glass. The incorporated Pt species were reduced at elevated temperatures via intramolecular reduction of Pt(II) by ammonia ligands. The prepared catalysts were tested in deep oxidation of different hydrocarbons and in destruction of chlorinated and polychlorinated hydrocarbons, including dioxins. It is remarkable that FG catalyst showed much higher activity in the combustion of ethylbenzene compared by commercial one, though Pt content is 30 times lower. As follows from SSITKA study the molecular species of O2 can be involved in reaction.
Catalyst showed 99%+ conversion on industrial level for more than 3 years operation at severe conditions (dust, water steam, P admixtures etc) in the abatement of waste gases from synthetic rubber plant (JSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim, Russia).
