Abstract: Important role of iron in the reaction of benzene oxidation to phenol using nitrous oxide on a ferrisilicate analog of ZSM-5 zeolite is established. Removal of iron from the zeolite channels causes a considerable decrease in the catalytic activity, which results in a diminution of the benzene conversion from 31 to 10%. The successive introduction of iron leads to restoration of the activity, whereas the addition of Co and Cu results in a further decrease in the activity.
