Abstract: The main regularities of the hydrogenolysis of tetrahydrothiophene (THT), the possible intermediate in thiophene hydrogenolysis, are examined. All kinetic regularities of the hydrogenolysis of thiophene and THT over the same catalysts are shown to be identical except for the numerical values of the parameters of these processes: the rate and the activation energy are lower in THT hydrogenolysis. A conclusion is drawn that the C-S bond hydrogenolysis is the rate-determining step in both reactions.
