Abstract:
Mossbauer spectra of Fe-ZSM-5 zeolite treated successively with N2O to obtain active alpha-oxygen and then with CH4 were recorded. In air, the parameters of spectra significantly changed because Fe2+ changed its coordination from tetrahedral to octahedral. It was found that, when alpha-oxygen reacted with CH4 in the absence of air, Fe3+ previously formed by the reaction that yields alpha-oxygen from N2O is partially reduced to Fe2+. The nature of active states of iron and the mechanism of methane oxidation are discussed.
