Abstract: It was demonstrated that the treatment of polyethylene by nitrous oxide (N2O) at 230-250 °С leads to selective oxidation of end double bonds of the polymer and their quantitative conversion into carbonyl groups. Oxidation has an insignificant effect on the molecular mass distribution of the polymer and may be regarded as a new method of PE modification.
