Abstract: This chapter discusses the external surface acidity of modified zeolites. The external surface Brönsted and Lewis acidity of modified zeolites are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) of hydroxyl (OH) groups and adsorbed cobalt (CO) molecules and electron spin resonance (ESR) of adsorbed nitroxyl radicals. The catalytic properties of the samples are tested in the reactions of aromatics conversion—namely, toluene, pseudocumene, and triisopropylbenzene. The correlation between acidity and catalytic activity has been found and discussed.
