Abstract: Heterocyclization of 3-diethylamino-6-heptyn-1-yl-1,4-naphthoquinone-5-diazonium chloride results in the formation of five- or six-membered ring containing products depending on the reaction conditions. A common intermediate was isolated. Possible reaction mechanisms are discussed.
