Abstract: An analysis of experimental results on explosive compaction of "Mypolex" diamond powder is presented. The duration of effective impulse of shock pressure was changed from 50 to 120 ms. Together with diamond, the following forms of carbon were found in the obtained compacts: graphite, closed-​curved graphite-​like structures, carbon nanotubes, amorphous carbon, fullerenes and a carbon phase with carbide-​like at. bonds. Long-​pulse explosive compaction makes it possible to obtain strong bonding between the diamond particles even at a low shock pressure (≤10 GPa)​. The mechanism for appearance of a carbide-​like carbon phase is proposed.
