Abstract: The electronic state of Pt and Sn in alumina supported catalysts remains the subject of discussions for a long time. Some authors [I -3] have revealed that Sn in these catalysts has a Sno state and forms Pt-Sn alloys. It causes the inhibition of cracking reactions due to decreasing of Pt - hydrocarbon bond energy (ligand effect) or dilution of Pt surface by tin atoms (geometric effect). The others [4-7] provided evidence that Sn in supported catalysts is in Sn 2+ electronic condition and according to the surface model the Pt clusters locate on the tin aluminate surface 153. In this paper we have tried to elucidate the role of Pt modification by Sn using a different manner of tin introducing into the catalyst.
