Abstract: Impregnation of SiO2, Al2O3, La2O3, TiO2, and MgO with a pentane solution of Co2(CO)​8, followed by rapid pyrolysis in a vacuum at 530 K, gave active catalysts for propylene hydroformylation. The most active catalyst contained 0.4​% Co on SiO2. Selectivities for unbranched products ranged from 54 to 89​%. The main products (48-​89​%) were butanols, formed by reduction of butyraldehydes.
