Abstract: The state of Re was studied in catalysts prepared by deposition of Re2(CO)​10 on γ-​Al2O3 which involves a reaction of Lewis acid centers and OH groups of the support. The low-​oxidation state Re ions form on the catalyst surface owing to a thermal decomposition. On a subsequent adsorption of O, at 298 K, a significant concentration of O becomes adsorbed as O2-​. At 570 K, the adsorption leads to oxidation to Re7+, which resists a reduction to metallic state on a treatment with H at 770 K.
