Abstract:
The state of the aluminum and silicon atoms in Y and ZSM type zeolites and mordenite as a function of the extent of their decationization and treatment temperature has been investigated by 27Al and 29Si NMR. It is found that as the decationization proceeds, some of the aluminum atoms in hydrated Y type zeolites and mordenite depart from the framework and form complexes, in which the aluminum atom has an octahedral oxygen environment. At the same time, the probability of departure from the framework is greater for the aluminum atoms appearing in the composition of the lattice Si(OAl)n groups with increased values of n.
