Abstract: A study is made of the effect of the initial iron compound on the formation of an efficient iron-antimony oxide catalyst for oxidative ammonolysis of propylene by mixing with a gel of hydrated antimony pentoxide. When ferric hydroxide is used, the components react chemically to form ferric antimonate during the heat treatment at 500-900 degree ; therefore a relatively high calcination temperature is needed to obtain an efficient catalyst. When ferric nitrate solution is used, Fe3 plus reacts with hydrated antimony pentoxide at the mixing and drying stage; this provides high activity and selectivity for catalysts calcined at 500 degree.
