Abstract: The adsorption of O on recrystallized Pt foil was studied by AES and thermal desorption. At ⪆800 K, O dissolves in the subsurface layers of Pt. This is accompanied by a decrease of impurity on Pt surface. Adsorption of O on surface steps results in an inhibition of a subsequent O adsorption.
