Abstract: The adsorption of CO on recrystallized Pt foil was studied by AES by using a cylindrical mirror analyzer. The surface concentration of adsorbed CO was calculated. The chemisorbed O on surface steps reacts readily with the adjacent adsorbed CO to form CO2 which evolves to the gaseous phase. The applicability of the T. Engel and G. Ertl (1979) mechanism to the surface reaction is discussed.
