Abstract: Reduction of the title compounds (I; R = Bu, octyl, C7-​C12 alkyl mixture, H) by H2 over Pd​/Al2O3 gave up to 100​% thiolane 1,​1-​dioxide. Kinetic experiments indicated that 2-​thiolene 1,​1-​dioxide was an intermediate.
