Abstract: The influence of a surface addition of Na, electrodeposited on a reduced ZnO surface, on the oxidation of CO has been investigated. The activation energy of the reaction is 66 plus or minus 5 kj/mole and the orders of the reaction rate are 0. 7 plus or minus 0. 1 and 0. 1 plus or minus 0. 1 with respect to O2 and CO, respectively, in the 420-520 K temperature range before and after the electrodeposition of Na. It is shown that the concentration of conduction electrons is not the parameter controlling the reaction rate.
