Abstract: Conversions of methane on high-silica zeolites have been investigated at 350-450 degree C in the presence of N2O, NO, O2, NO2, and H2O2. The conditions under which aromatic hydrocarbons are formed from methane have been determined. It is suggested that the reaction proceeds through a bifunctional two-stage mechanism through a stage of oxidative dehydrogenation and subsequent homologization of the carbon-containing residue. The degree of dehydrogenation of the carbon-containing compounds depends on the nature of the oxidizing agent.
