Abstract: The formation of the active component in bulk and supported titanium-magnesium catalysts for ethylene polymerization has been investigated by means of ESR and x-ray diffraction. The ESR spectra and catalytic properties of the bulk catalysts, which were prepared by reducing TiCl4 with nonsolvated MgR2, and supported catalysts, prepared by adsorbing TiCl4 on MgCl2 support with subsequent reduction by an organoaluminum compound, were compared with the analogous characteristics of catalysts obtained by milling TiCl3 with MgCl2.
