Abstract: The kinetics of catalytic oxidation of CO by p-benzoquinone in the presence of an aqua-complex of Pd(II) was studied. On the basis of the kinetic functions obtained, we compared the mechanisms of the oxidation of CO and the related reaction of oxidation of olefins, studied earlier in the same system. It was shown that in contrast to olefins, where the mechanism of the reaction is stepwise and is limited by the step of oxidation of Pd(0) complexes by the oxidizing agent, the step of reduction of Pd(II) in the oxidation of CO proceeds slowly, while the oxidation of Pd(0) by the oxidizing agent proceeds rapidly.
