Abstract: The mechanism of oxygen incorporation into the products of acrolein oxidation over H3PMo12O40 and K3PMo12O40 is studied. It is shown that acrylic acid and carbon oxides are formed by a redox mechanism. Higher rates of acrylic-acid formation on reduced heteropolycompounds are accounted for by different mechanisms of acrolein activation on oxidized and reduced surfaces.
