Abstract: A new procedure for the preparation of γ-Al2O3-supported molybdenum-containing catalysts, which involves anchoring the bi- and trinuclear molybdenum complex compounds on a support surface, is proposed. By means of XPS, EXAFS, and NMR techniques, the interaction between the complexes and a support, as well as the structure of the surface species are studied. After anchoring, the molybdenum oxidation degree and the framework fragments of the starting complexes are retained in the catalysts obtained. The prepared catalysts exceed those synthesized by the support impregnation with an ammonium heptamolybdate solution, in the activity, selectivity, and the duration of the stable performance in the metathesis of propene and 1-hexene.
