Abstract: In the reaction of CO oxidation at 15-30 degree C at relative humidities of 35-100%, a study has been made of catalysts, obtained by deposition on silica gel, of palladium and a heteropolyacid (HPA) with the composition of H7PMo8V4O40 multiplied by (times) 30H2O. The Pd:HPA ratio, the process temperature, the catalyst pretreatment, and the moisture content of the reaction mixture were investigated to determine their influence on the catalyst activity. It was found that under the particular reaction conditions investigated, the catalyst constitutes a multiphase catalytic system in which one active component (HPA) is in the liquid phase, and the other (palladium), which is water-insoluble and is strongly adsorbed on the support, is localized in a zone adjacent to the external surface of the catalyst grain.
