Abstract: The character of coke formation on zeolites of the pentasil type in conversion of methanol into hydrocarbons was studied. EPR and x-ray photoelectronic spectroscopy (XPES) shows that the degree of condensation of the coke deposits is strongly dependent on the SiO2Al2O3 molar ratio on the external surface of the zeolite crystals. Either a decrease in the number of active centers on the external surface of the crystals or an increase in the proportion of the external surface results in an increase in the coking time of the zeolites.
