Abstract: Infrared and Raman spectroscopy, diffuse reflection electronic spectroscopy, and x-ray phase analysis, were used to study the genesis of the phase composition of the Fe3-Co7-Bi-Mo12 oxide catalyst obtained by precipitation from solutions of Fe, Co, and Bi nitrates and ammonium heptamolybdate at pH 0-3. Precipitation gave molybdenum heteropoly compounds (HPC). The dried sample is a mixture of these HPC, Co(NO3)2, and NH4NO3. The formation of Co, Bi, and Fe molybdates proceeds largely at approx. 230°C in solid-phase reactions.
