Abstract: Adsorption calorimetry and NH3 thermal desorption were used to det. the concns. and strengths of acid sites in bulk or supported (on different supports) heteropoly acid H3PW12O40. Bulk H3PW12O40 has acid sites for which NH3 adsorption heats are 140-​165 kJ mol-​1. Supported H3PW12O40 has more but weaker acid sites (NH3 adsorption heats 115-​120 kJ mol-​1.
