Abstract: SiO2-supported 3-6-nm particles of Ag were significantly less active than d∼103-nm particles in exhaustive and partial oxidation of ethylene (I), adsorption of O, interaction of adsorbed O with H, and adsorption of CO2 and were more active than solid Ag catalysts in chemisorption of I and isotopic H exchange of I. The rate constants for O transfer were lower for highly dispersed than for coarse crystal Ag. The dependence of differential heat of adsorption on the degree of surface coverage was similar for Ag catalysts of various dispersion. The study is of interest with respect to proper choice of Ag catalyst for oxidation of I.
