Abstract: The influence of the temperature of the catalyst pretreatment in H-2 both on the state and on the catalytic activity of copper chromite in acetone hydrogenation to isopropanol was studied. It was shown that reduction in H-2 at 180 - 370 degrees C permitted one to achieve the most active state of the catalyst. The reduction of similar to 50% of copper ions took place in this temperature region, and the metal copper was stabilized on the surface of a defect spinel in the form of bonded epitaxial particles. This state was reversible, and the hydrogen removal resulted in the restoration of the parent chromite.
