Abstract: The substitution of 30-50% potassium promoter by sodium in vanadium catalysts for SO: oxidation is shown to increase significantly their activity at low temperatures and conversions of SO2. ESR studies indicate that the presence of sodium inhibits the evolution of inactive V 4+ compounds.
