Abstract: 195Pt and 119Sn NMR studies indicate that in the acetone solution of H2 PtC16 +' SnC1 + HCl three consecutive reactions take place. First, H2PtC16 is rapidly reduced by SnCI2, second, an Sn : Pt = 1 platinum-tin complex is formed through the intermediate Sn : Pt = 2 complex and, third, Pt(II) complexes are slowly reduced by Sn(II) to Pt(0).
