Abstract: XPS and TDS methods have been employed to study interaction of oxygen with the surface of polycrystalline silver over wide temperature (420–620 K) ranges. O2 adsorption on Ag at T<470 K leads to a single surface state. The interaction of oxygen with Ag at T>470 K is accompanied by oxygen penetration into the bulk and subsequent formation of subsurface oxygen.
