Abstract: As found for the SO2 oxidation process, on passing the reaction mixture through the vanadium catalyst bed a wavefront of an active crystalline phase of V(IV) compounds arises and creeps with time, causing a decrease in catalytic activity. A simple model of phase transformation is proposed, which is in good agreement with experimental data.
