Abstract: HREELS studies of NO molecular adsorption on clean and hydrogen covered Pt(111) have revealed that a reversible transition between bridge (α1) and on-top (α2) states of NOads is realized in the (NO+H2)/Pt(111) system. In the presence of Hads the adsorption of NO in the α1 state is inhibited and the main state of NOads is α2. Upon heating the layer (α2-NOads+Hads) hydrogen desorption is accompanied by on-top to bridge state conversion.
